O-I : EXPRESSIONS Announces 2021 Design Awards Contest

For more than 100 years, our master glass makers have transformed food and beverage brands into icons through the magic of glass packaging. O-I : EXPRESSIONS is inviting the next generation of visual storytellers to submit their creations that combine elements of sustainability and premiumization, featuring a bottle from O-I’s upcoming EU Contemporary Spirits Collection, to the O-I : EXPRESSIONS Design Awards 2021 contest. 

The contest theme is “Premium and Sustainable,” a nod to the elements from O-I’s upcoming EU collection, which will be officially introduced at a virtual event May 11. Contestants are invited to submit a design rendering that follows the theme using the “Lux” bottle from the new collection and the capabilities of O-I : EXPRESSIONS. Participants will also title their work and submit a short summary, 300 words or less.  

O-I is partnering with Packaging of Premium and Luxury Drinks (PLD) and Pentawards. Melianthe Leeman, O-I global marketing director, wine and spirits, announced the contest during PLD’s Digital Day, March 25; O-I was the title event partner of the day.  

“Packaging design has long been centered on aesthetic appeal and product protection. Now, it also involves communicating brand sustainability,” she says. “O-I is delighted to be supporting this exciting competition in collaboration with PLD and Pentawards.” 

Students can submit ideas until June 15. A panel of industry expert judges will choose five finalists. The designs from the finalists will be on display at “Packaging Innovations and Luxury Packaging,” a live event in London in September. The winner will be announced at the event.
